An essay means “an attempt”. Anyone can write essays, it's just about getting started.
In this workshop, we try our hand at the genre, which moves at the intersection of fiction and non-fiction. Based on exemplary texts, we jointly try to arrive at what a well-functioning essay should be capable of. How to create a linguistic engine? What role should the “I” have — or not have? How do you compare yourself to other texts? The workshop will be anchored in a lecture, and include several writing exercises.
About TeachersAmalie Langballe is an author and journalist. Both in her columns and chronicles and in her writing, she uses herself and her personal history to examine sexuality, power, desire, relationships, and boundaries. She made her debut in 2019 with “Disappearance Numbers”, a grief novel about a daughter's attempts to find head and tail in herself and life after her mother's death. The next novel, “Lovers,” from 2025, is set in a brothel in medieval times and sizzles with bodily fluids and smells. In 2026, “New Virtues” was published - a collection of essays with conversations with the Bible
