About the event

About the workshop: Writing historical fictionAt this workshop, we work with historical fiction — stories in which real events and places are mixed with invented persons and actions.

We talk about how you can use research to make your story believable, but also how to avoid drowning in details. You will get tips on how to build a narrative so that the reader feels like they are back in time — for example, in Copenhagen 100 years ago.

We also look at the difference between writing about real people (exofiction) and coming up with your own characters in a historical setting. Along the way, we'll talk about the challenges and pitfalls that can be when writing about something that really happened — and how you can come up with exactly the kind of stories you're passionate about telling.

The workshop alternates between short presentations and practical writing exercises, where you will have the opportunity to try ideas from and get inspiration from the other participants. You don't need to have written historical fiction before to join — the most important thing is that you want to explore the genre and get the joy of writing going.
