Broadway, Hollywood and the American concert scene — during the carnival evening, Piotr Pławner and the Silesian Chamber Orchestra will invite the audience on a musical journey through the most beautiful melodies of the 20th century. The program will combine musical, jazz, film music and classics of American popular culture, creating a concert full of energy, emotion and unforgettable themes.

The evening will open with a suite from Jerry Bock's musical Fiddler on the Roof — one of the most beloved productions in Broadway history. The story of Teva the Milkmaid, based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, has been moving audiences around the world for more than half a century, and her music has become a symbol of tradition, family ties and undying hope.

A special place in the program will be occupied by the work of George Gershwin — a composer who, like few people, could connect the world of classical music with jazz. The audience will hear Three Preludes, the lyrical Lullaby and the energetic I Got Rhythm, among the most recognizable pieces of the American repertoire of the first half of the 20th century.

The American musical landscape will be completed by two masterpieces related to the history of cinema. A moving suite from John Williams' Schindler's List will recall the extraordinary power of music in telling human stories, while Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story will take listeners to the streets of New York, where the classic Romeo and Juliet story meets jazz, Latin music and the energy of the big city.

The program will also include songs that have permanently entered the history of world film music. We will hear famous tunes from The Wizard of Oz, one of the most important films in Hollywood history, as well as a suite from Once Upon a Time in the Wild West by Ennio Morricone, a composer whose music has become an integral symbol of the film western. There will also be plenty of humorous Plink, Plank, Plunk! Leroy Anderson, one of the masters of American orchestral miniature.

This carnival concert will be an encounter with music that has delighted audiences on both sides of the Atlantic for decades. From Broadway to Hollywood, from Gershwin to Williams, the show's common denominator will remain melodiousness, emotion and the joy of making music together.
