About the event

We only play on November 15th. Screening as part of the series Exhibition in Cinema. Tickets now on sale

The famous “Sunflowers” by Vincent van Gogh is a work that belongs to those that everyone recognizes. Not only are they an icon in their own right, but they've also made their way into pop culture. They even appeared in the iconic comedy series “'Allo 'Allo!” It should also be remembered here that “Sunflowers” is not one picture, but a series. Van Gogh painted these flowers 11 times.

Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers are among his most famous works and are some of the most iconic paintings in the world. In an extraordinary exhibition, the Van Gogh Museum took a fresh and revelatory look at five publicly owned versions of sunflowers in a vase.

We recognize them immediately, but the film goes beyond the surface of the images to ask many questions and delve into the mysteries that surround these works. For example, why did Van Gogh choose an exotic sunflower with a long stem and a golden crown? When did this flower appear in Europe and how did previous artists react to it? What did the painter try to say when creating Sunflowers and is it different in each subsequent version of them? Finally, what secrets have scientists discovered by analyzing in detail the images they possess?

All this will be revealed in a film that has traveled beyond Amsterdam to Tokyo, Philadelphia, London and Munich to film, in incredible resolution, all five works.

“Exhibition on Screen” is a presentation of the collections of the most outstanding artists of painting from the most important museums around the world. On the big screen, in excellent HD picture quality, thematic exhibitions are shown, captured in a special way, adapted to cinematic conditions. Masterpieces of painting, sculpture and graphics will be shown on the cinema screen from different perspectives, and the tour of the gallery and museum halls will be accompanied by stories of works, biographies of artists, statements of experts analyzing the style and technique of paintings.
