Maria Konopnicka is known to us in various guises — as a novelist, a writer of children's works, a translator, a publicist, as well as a mother of six children and a woman fighting for her rights.
During the meeting, another, slightly less known face of the author will be presented, which is associated with a special interest in art in the second half of the 19th century and numerous attempts to transpose it into bound speech.
In addition to theoretical and descriptive passages, the lecture will include examples of works from Konopnicka's poem Z teki Grottger and the poetic volume Italia.
The meetings of the series Word and Image will be an opportunity to examine some aspects of the work of 19th century writers and highlight the themes related to art in it. In the case of Maria Konopnicka, these will include poetic works referring to the series of drawings by Arthur Grottger, the poet Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer will prove to be an established art critic, Gabriela Zapolska will be presented as a theater actress with a love for fashion, while Stanisław Wyspiański will appear through the prism of his letters, which he perceives reality from the perspective of the determinants of a work of art: color and line. The meetings will be led by lecturers of the University of Wroclaw: Prof. Justyna Bajda, Dr. Justyna Kowal and Dr. Fryderyk Nguyen.
