Stanisław Wyspiański's letters are recognized not only as a personal document of their author, but also a literary work. During the closing series of lectures of the meeting, the literature of the greatest Polish artist of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries will be presented, who throughout his artistic life wanted to create a “monumental work” — as much in art as in words.
Wyspiański's letters have already been developed from a linguistic and historical perspective — but so far they have not been dealt with, taking into account the determinants of the artistic work: color and lines. It is they who will become the main theme of the speech.
These issues will be illustrated on the basis of letters, but also references to Wyspiański's dramas and poetry.
The meetings of the series Word and Image will be an opportunity to examine some aspects of the work of 19th century writers and highlight the themes related to art in it. In the case of Maria Konopnicka, these will include poetic works referring to the series of drawings by Arthur Grottger, the poet Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer will prove to be an established art critic, Gabriela Zapolska will be presented as a theater actress with a love for fashion, while Stanisław Wyspiański will appear through the prism of his letters, which he perceives reality from the perspective of the determinants of a work of art: color and line. The meetings will be led by lecturers of the University of Wroclaw: Prof. Justyna Bajda, Dr. Justyna Kowal and Dr. Fryderyk Nguyen.
