Serving for everything

The city tempts with the promise of advancement, electric light, a better life.

The audience is introduced to this world by Emilka, a young girl from the province who quickly loses her name to become “one of the many Kas or Maryś”. In a new environment, he meets other servants and gradually discovers the fate of women who built the lives of others, never having a chance of their own.

Based on the reportage “Serving everything” by Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak, a drama was created that restores the voice of these forgotten women. The mysterious, at times grotesque world of interwar service reveals the structures of violence that, in a changed form, have survived to this day. It is a story of class divisions, invisible labor and the need for community, which becomes the first step to resistance.
