We invite you to the next installment of Jerzy Snakowski's author's series “Snack Opera”. Conversations with the artists and the works performed by them will introduce the audience to the fascinating world of Baroque opera — full of passion, elaborate ornaments, unusual voices and theatrical splendor.

We will tell you about how the opera was born, who the greatest composers of the Baroque era were, for what audience their works were created and what customs prevailed in the theaters of that time. We will also look at the role of singers, virtuoso arias, artist rivalries and audience expectations. We will consider why the operas of several centuries ago again delight the modern audience, how they sound on the stage today, and what makes the emotions contained in them remain so close to the man of the 21st century.

The musical part will feature works that show the richness and diversity of Baroque musical theatre — from brilliant virtuoso arias to moving lyrical scenes. The most important principle of the “Snack Opera” remains unchanged: it is the audience who chooses the songs they want to listen to themselves.

Popularizer of musical theater — opera, ballet, musical, operetta. The author of theatrical scripts, performances for children, educational programs for adults (“Opera? Yes!” in the Baltic Opera, “Musicalomania” at the Music Theater in Gdynia, “Operetta Vertigo” at the Mazovian Music Theater), the opera monodrama “Diva for rent” (premiere: Teatr Polonia, 2011), a series of programs for TVP “What with this opera”.

Academic lecturer (University of Gdańsk, Academy of Music in Gdańsk). Commentator on cultural life, publicist (trojcitio.pl, wp.pl, Radio Gdańsk, Ruch Muzyczna). Lecturer. Winner of three editions of the Great Opera Game. Organizer of cultural tourism. In the past, he was deputy director of the Baltic Opera, literary secretary of the Musical Theater in Gdynia.
