Snorre Kirk European Quartet

The Snorre Kirk European Quartet is a world-class jazz ensemble led by Danish drummer Snorre Kirk, featuring London mainstays Giacomo Smith on clarinet and Joe Webb on piano. With a contemporary take on the sounds of classic swing, this quartet delivers infectious, high-energy performances that honor tradition while embracing a fresh, modern sound, continuing to captivate audiences across the globe.

After skyrocketing onto the European Jazz Scene as a sideman with some of the finest names on the Scandinavian jazz scene today, as well as working with prominent international names such as Diane Schuur, Eric Reed and Stephen Riley, recent years have seen inter-scandinavian drummer Snorre Kirk emerging as a full- fledged artist and composer in his own right.

With Blues Modernism, the hugely successful 2012 debut outing from Snorre Kirk, awarded with the prestigious JazzSpecial Award in Denmark for "Album of the Year", as well as receiving two nominations in the Danish Grammy Awards, the drummer got an opportunity to showcase his remarkable qualities as a composer and as a bandleader. With his subsequent outings, Europa, Drummer & Composer, BEAT and Tangerine Rhapsody, followed by performances at prominent international festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Pori Jazz Festival, and even the Kansas City Art of Swing Festival, Snorre Kirk has further cemented his position as one of Europe’s fastest rising jazz stars.

In this brand new all-star constellation, Kirk has teamed up with two of UK’s finest musicians, namely Giacomo Smith on saxophones and clarinet, as well Joe Webb on piano - both being defining figures of the contemporary London jazz scene with the highly acclaimed and succesful orchestra Kansas Smitty’s, as well as in performances with everyone from Wynton Marsalis to Jamie Cullum. With long-time Kirk collaborator Anders Fjeldsted completing the line-up on bass, this quartet presents a highly original take on the contemporary sound of classic jazz.
