About the event

Bittersweet nostalgia with snuggle in VEGA

With a fine-meshed web of atmospheric guitar riffs, sky-faring melodies and heartfelt lyrical lines, musical soulmates Andrea Thuesen (Baby in Vain) and Vilhelm Strange (Liss) deliver eminent indie pop to the heart's content.

The love child is called snuggle, and over the past few years the band has moved with rocket speed from the DIY underground in Copenhagen to the larger Danish music scene.

The two musicians found immediate symbiosis as schoolmates at the Copenhagen Rhythmic Music Academy, where they bonded over long jam sessions. With snuggle, the two musicians have found a creative shelter from the beating rain of life. Through their atmospheric and analog productions, the duo dose existential dread with equal parts humor and poetry.

In October last year, their critically acclaimed debut album, Goodbyehouse, was released on the leading Danish record label Eshoo. The songs are written during a period of much change in the lives of the two musicians: a local café that Thuesen worked at for nearly a decade closed, the home where Strange grew up was sold, both experienced heartbreak and breakup. The changes became the centerpiece of the album: a melancholy farewell to the safe and familiar surroundings mixed with a sizzling enthusiasm for the unexplored territory. Andrea Thuesen explains in the press release:

'You don't really know what's waiting on the other side, so you're a bit excited. But it's also scary and melancholic, I also like the same feeling in music.”

Goodbyehouse has received countless stars and praises from home and abroad. Pitchfork gave the album a score of 7.3 and wrote enthusiastically: “Unlike so many of its neo-shoegaze peers, the Danish duo has no interest in sugarcoating its feelings—its sweetly melodic dream pop hides a wellspring of existential angst.”
