Join New Architecture Writers and Sir John Soane’s Museum for an evening tracing Sir John’s footsteps and considering his remarkable home as a future ruin.
The eighth cohort of New Architecture Writers will take you on a journey into the future of the Museum through their new speculative guidebook.
Inspired by Sir John Soane’s own Crude Hints Towards an History of my House, in which he imagines his home as a future ruin inspected by visitors speculating on its origins and function, New Architecture Writers have taken on a long-held Museum tradition and made the Museum Guidebook their own.
These pieces of speculative fiction explore the concept of a 22nd-century guidebook, considering how buildings and architecture hold meaning and memory, and what is lost when these buildings decay and disappear.
Featuring live readings from New Architecture Writers, this will be an evening unlike any other. You will be invited to consider Sir John Soane's Museum in an entirely new light. The Museum is at its most awe-inspiring after dark when the vast and eclectic collections are lit with candlelight and brought to life by this new interpretation by New Architecture Writers, as well as the insights of the Museum’s expert guides.
We encourage photography at these events and if you are sharing your images on social media, tag @newarchwriters and @soanemuseum or @soanemuseumevents on Instagram

About New Architecture Writers
New Architecture Writers is an experiment in architectural pedagogy. Led by Thomas Aquilina and Tom Wilkinson with Leela Keshav, it is a free London-based programme for emerging writers of colour. Founded in 2017, New Architecture Writers has become a leading platform for architectural discourse. Public events are critical to the programme’s mission of expanding architectural culture and sharing it with a wider audience.
Each year an open call selects nine members to form a cohort who participate in a structured programme designed to develop a writing practice and critical voice. Running predominantly as a night school, members respond to themed briefs that encourage experimentation with writing form and approach. Moving away from the traditionally solitary figure of the writer, N.A.W. positions writing as a relational and public practice.
