Saturday Creative Studio — Compendium artisticum

About the workshop:

Compendium artisticum is a series of Saturday creative studies at the Museum of Mr. Tadeusz. The workshops create a space for intergenerational integration — everyone who wants to develop manual skills and stimulate creativity is invited! We recommend the workshop to people who want to relax after a long week at work, seniors and families with children. Together we will discover the old pastimes of the Polish nobility.

The term Compendium artisticum refers to the noble culture of collecting book collections — in private libraries there were both native literary works and the first specialist guides written in Polish. The first such publications were often called compendias or vademecs.

In autumn, the temperature drops, in the morning we are often greeted by rain. During the class, we will learn how our noble ancestors spent the long, cool, October days. We will try to create on canvas an old Polish landscape shimmering with autumn colors.

Jagoda Winkelbauer — educator and museum guide, graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. At the Pan Tadeusz Museum, he is responsible for museum lessons related to the Romantic era and the reading of “Pan Tadeusz”. He runs author cycles of Saturday classes.

The dancing flame of a candle accompanied our ancestors on long, autumn evenings - the candles, however, looked a little different than the ones we can buy today in stores. During the workshop we will use (beautifully fragrant!) gifts of nature to create one-of-a-kind candles.

The Christmas trees we know today came to Poland only in the 19th and 20th centuries — before that, the noblers-Sarmatians decorated the armrests — spruce branches suspended from the ceiling. They were decorated with unique ornaments made of paper, nuts and candy wrappers. Let's make old Polish Christmas balls together and listen to an unusual story about an armchair.
