Sunrise

Germany's greatest silent film director, F. W. Murnau, was brought to Hollywood and created what is, in the eyes of many, one of the world's best films. And although Murnau's encounter with America was to have a tragic end — he was killed in a car accident — Sunrise was a beautiful fusion of the best of the two worlds. The film unites the imagery of German Expressionism with the American narrative tradition and is a shining example of what European films brought to the American continent.
