SON CON TO is not just a band – it is a love letter to the son cubano.
Born in London from a collective of Cuban and Latin musicians with deep roots in the tradition, the sextet returns to the original format that defined Cuban music in the 1920s: two voices, tres, trumpet, contrabass/baby bass, bongó and tumbadora. No frills, no fusions forced – just the essential dialogue between melody, rhythm and poetry.
Their repertoire honours the pillars of the genre – Ignacio Piñeiro, Miguel Matamoros, Arsenio Rodríguez – while bringing the son to today’s stage with the energy of a street rumba and the elegance of a classic septeto. Every guajeo on the tres, every martillo on the bongó, every pregón recalls the deepest story of son: African rhythm, Spanish trova, and the voice of the barrio.
With appearances at iconic London venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and a sound shaped by musicians who have lived son from Santiago to Havana to Brixton, SON CON TO invites audiences to listen, dance, and remember why this music conquered the world.
SON CON TO – where the son still lives.
