The Nutcracker is a classic fairy tale written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816. It tells about the adventures of seven-year-old Clara in the magical world of animated toys. The story begins on Christmas Eve when Clara receives the eponymous Nutcracker. The toy comes to life and leads the girl to the land of fantasy. There they fight the Mouse King. After the victory, Grandfather turns into a prince, and Clara discovers the land of sweets. The story combines elements of fairy tale and fantasy. It touches on the themes of transformation, courage and the power of children's imagination. The most famous adaptation is Peter Tchaikovsky's 1892 ballet, which has become a Christmas tradition around the world.
