A joint exit to the performance “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Łaznia Nowa Theater preceded by the workshops “Body in readiness” in the Zgodly Club.
This time we do not start by entering the audience. First, we will prepare the body, attention and readiness to meet the performance, which allows the audience to be much closer to the events than during a traditional performance.
Program of the event:
15:00 — 17:00 — workshops in the Concord Club
18:00 — performance “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Łaznia Nowa Theatre
Body in readiness:
“Body in readiness” is an active theater workshop that does not teach “about the theater” — it prepares you to be in the theater. We want to remove the daily tension, activate the awareness of our own body and space, and get used to the movement and closeness of other people. We are waiting for a series of active exercises inspired by physical theater combined with improvisational techniques.
We will start with simple warm-ups that build looseness and contact in the group. Next, we will focus on the awareness of our own body, space and the presence of other people. In the following exercises we will learn to react to what is happening around — spontaneously, without distance and without fear of entering into action.
The workshop is the first stage of our encounter with “Jesus Christ Superstar”. We do not consider them as a separate point of the program, but as preparation for what will happen later in the theater. By working with the body, we want to open ourselves to a new experience of theatre — also to a situation in which the spectator is not only an observer, but can get closer to the action, move with it and react to what is happening around.
After the workshop, as a group, we will go to the Łażnia Nowa Theatre for “Jesus Christ Superstar” — a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, telling about the last days of Jesus' life from the perspective of Judas.
Performance “Jesus Christ Superstar”:
It is a show with a unique, immersive formula. The audience does not have to stay in one place all the time. Standing seats allow for full participation and mobility during the performance, and viewers can follow the characters and choose their own viewing perspective. The performance also uses the silent disco formula — the audience receives headphones through which they receive the music and sound of the performance. There will be a choice of standing and sitting places. The audience is unnumbered.
Thanks to the workshops, we will not only be able to see the performance, but to enter it with a different kind of readiness to experience the theater beyond the traditional division into stage and audience.
The workshop leader - Michał “Majkel” Iwanicki is an improviser, comedian, mime and clown, associated with the Cracow improvised theatre scene for more than a decade. He is the founder of the Comedy Place and the Comedy School Foundation in Krakow. He teaches practical improvisation at the Pontifical University in Krakow. He also works as a clown at the Czerwone Noski Foundation - Clown at the Hospital, where daily work with the smallest mask in the world teaches him a tender, precise presence with another human being.
