About the event

On November 2, 2026 at 11:00am in the Performance Hall of the House of Culture there will be a performance “The Big Prince and the Black Dog” directed by Magda Skiba, based on a text by Robert Urbański. The event was organized with the students of secondary schools in mind.

It is an author's play that addresses important and current topics related to the mental health of young people, depression, loneliness and mood disorders. The show speaks in a moving way about the emotions, feelings of alienation and difficulties that young people face, as well as the need for understanding, support and conversation.

Robert Urbanski was inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's “The Little Prince” and the depression metaphor known as the “Black Dog” popularized by Winston Churchill. The eponymous Big Prince, lost in the adult world, lonely and in search of his own place, becomes a symbol of a young man struggling with difficult emotions and misunderstanding of his surroundings.

The creators of the play, when preparing the performance, also drew on the experiences and reflections of the young people participating in the workshops. Thanks to this, the story acquires an authentic dimension and takes on problems that are close to young people.

The show is an opportunity for reflection and open conversation about depression and mental crises. His important message is to remind us that difficulties do not have to mean a hopeless situation, and seeking help is a sign of courage. It is important to be able to recognize disturbing signals, talk about your emotions and know where to look for professional support.

After the performance, a conversation and discussion with the audience on the issues raised in the performance are foreseen. It will be a space to exchange reflections and reflect together on how to better understand yourself and others.

It is worth emphasizing that in 2025 the play won two main awards during the Wrocław festival “ReakCje — Theatre as a real tool of change”, which confirmed its artistic value and the importance of the subject matter.

We believe this meeting will become an important voice in the conversation about youth mental health and a reminder that no one should be left alone with their difficulties.
