“Open Union” — a performance of the S. Jaracz Amateur City Theatre in Otwock, based on a play by Italian Nobel laureate Dario Fo.

The cult farce of 1983, which he wrote with his wife Franka Rame. The play satirically exposes the marital crisis, betrayal and the masculine approach to freedom in a relationship in which the wife is forced by her husband to accept life in the eponymous “open relationship”. The story of a middle-aged, post-transition couple looking for alternative solutions to save their burnt-out relationship is told bravely. The dialogues ooze with wit, it is brilliant, blunt, often rude. It is a scathing comedy, but one that leaves us with unspeakable reflections.

The adaptation of “Open Union”, prepared by director Krzysztof Czekajewski, was first staged on the Otwock stage in 2004, starring Monika Aniszewska and Przemek Skoczek. The show was a huge success. Years later, the creators returned to it in 2019, in a renewed version, but the pandemic did not allow it to spread its wings. Therefore, now, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of “Jaracz”, the play is resumed. The first show is on June 21, the next dates in the new, post-holiday season.
