How do we understand spiritual experiences when they appear in connection with mental illness? Together with specialist in psychiatry Cæcilie Böck Buhmann, historian of ideas and author Rune Engelbreth Larsen and project leader in Foreningen Outsideren Jesper Hegelund Bertelsen, we investigate the encounter between spirituality, trauma and psychiatry.

Is our health care system at risk of morbid transformative experiences and thus overlook a potential for healing? What can we learn from the spiritual understandings and rituals of the past? And can and should spiritual experiences and pathological states of mind always be separated?
