It is the second half of the 19th century. Baldur, a young fisherman from the Faroe Islands, lives far from the big world, among the cliffs that the sea waves hit. Tall, handsome and talkative, he lives with his mother in the outback, he has never sailed further than beyond the horizon line. One day, the boy smashes his boat against the rocks and falls into the icy water. He is rescued by Helge, an experienced whaler, a man swept away by wind, salt and life. A fascination is born between men, which over time turns into a desire stronger than fear. And the story about them turns into a horror that will shake the lives of the inhabitants of a small community.

The Danish film “Sinners will not know peace” is absolute cinema. A dry, elegant and mesmerizing blend of racial horror, romance, thriller and horror cinema drawing on vampiric folklore. It is a film that from the first minutes draws the viewer in like a strong sea current. At first, he delights with stunning photographs and dark landscapes shrouded in fog, and later frightens with horror. This is one of the most beautiful cinematic love stories of recent years. And one of the most terrifying. If you are expecting a story about a forbidden feeling, you are in for a surprise. “Sinners Will Know No Peace” is not just another melancholy tale of emotion or romance. This is an outstanding full-blooded horror cinema, one of the brightest genre pearls of this festival season and one of those films after which it is difficult to immediately return to reality.
Kasper Kalle has created one of the best horror films of the year, in which folklore intertwines with adventure, and tenderness constantly clashes with mounting tension. With excellent actors: Egor Venned and Pilou Asbæk, the director leads with a confidence that could be envied by creators with a much larger body of work.
