“ÒPI” is a horror film that Polish cinema has been waiting for decades. Firmly embedded in Kashubian beliefs, it makes folk gushlas a source of authentic horror. Almost the same as that evoked by the furniture walls and furniture of the 90s, with which “ÒPI” breathes from the first to the last scene. This world, on the one hand, seems familiar, on the other, it inspires fear. The film builds its atmosphere gradually revealing the next pieces of the terrible puzzle. Folk rituals, local legends, so well-known, and yet alien and frightening in this edition, make “ÒPI” a stylish but unstylized film, strangely close to the heart and original. Here, the grievances conveyed in a suppressed voice are as terrifying as bloody fingers and decapitation, and the finale will call viewers with weaker nerves from their feet. And it will be worth it.
“ÒPI” is the feature debut of Marta Giec, who, together with Dominika Kłoczewiak, also wrote an excellent script, dense with emotions and horror. Great creations were created by four women: Wiktoria Kruszczyńska, recently seen in the series “Women's Hell”, the award-winning Gabriela Muskała, the surprising Magdalena Boczarska and Iwona Bielska, who, with her role in “ÒPI”, plays wonderfully with what she did in the cult “Wilczyca”.
