We cordially invite you on October 27 at 17.30, in the Cultural Center “Browar B.” (Dance Hall), for an author's meeting dedicated to the publication of the book “Ŏj, wesele, pojde na nie...” by Jadwiga Kurant.
A new edition by Jadwiga Kurant entitled “Ōj, wesele, pojde na nie...” Kujawy Nadwiślańskie is the fourth independent publication of this author presenting Kujawski folklore. Let us remind you that this outstanding and recognized in the Kujawski environment folklorist, choreographer and educator, and above all an animator of folk culture, has previously published three recognized positions, whose substantive value for the Kuyava region is simply not to be overestimated (Dance Folklore Kujaw. Folk dance, Włocławek 2006; Joyful childhood. Games and games of Kujawski children, Włocławek 2008; Rites and folk customs in Kujawy. Stage and outdoor performances, Włocławek 2013). The publications published in the series Regional Education of Youth Children by the Dobrzyńsko-Kujawskie Cultural Society in Włocławek are still an excellent source from which all those interested in the folklore heritage of the Kujawski region draw their knowledge, especially the instructors of the folklore ensembles to whom these books are especially addressed.
The author, winner of the prestigious Oskar Kolberg Prize awarded to her in 2013 for outstanding achievements in popularizing folk culture, for many years she led various folklore ensembles (Lubanie, Brześć Kujawski) and was one of the initiators of the creation of the Association — Zespół Artytyny Kujawy, registered in 1985, operating at the Włocławy Cultural Center, in which, as an instructor and screenwriter of shows, she contributed to his spectacular successes, making Kujawy famous in the country and abroad.
Published with great effort by the Cultural Center “Browar B.”, the next publication of the author is a complement to her publishing effort and an important complement to the folklore panorama of Kujawa, which is why the graphic style refers to previous publications. This time, Jadwiga Kurant invites readers to a wedding in family places, near Lubania, that is, in Kujawy Nadwiślańskie. The wedding, being the most spectacular family rite, was discussed here at length with a description of the transformations it underwent throughout the 20th century and, most importantly, the presentation of three complete scenarios of performances corresponding to the period of the interwar twenties and thematically related to this rite. These are Courtship, Engagement and Wedding. The picture of Courtship was additionally enriched with choreographic graphics, and all performances with musical setting and sheet music.
The publication therefore has two fundamental values: the first substantive, concerning the wedding itself, the second sentimental and cognitive, because the author invites the reader first to her local community, to the vicinity of Lubania, a wealthy village, once a church, famous for its rich folklore. Traveling back in time and remembering the past lives of the inhabitants of this close community, she hopes others will follow her, recalling the past and the moments lived here, such as the arrival of a touring cinema, the electrification of the village or the spring thaws, when children were transported to school on wagons or put in tubs, dragged along shallow water. Such a journey in time can also be interesting for younger generations already living in completely different realities. An undoubted advantage facilitating the knowledge of the past world is a rich illustration of people in everyday and festive life, especially a great account of the wedding prepared in Kujawska in 1959.
The book, addressed to a wide range of audiences on 244 pages, publishes 55 photographs, numerous notes of melodies with lyrics of songs and chants, drawings by the author and choreographic graphics.
