Author's meeting with Anna Cieplak

Author's meeting with Anna Cieplak and a book entitled: “Dependent beings”.

A MOVING NOVEL ABOUT THE DEPENDENCIES THAT SHAPE OUR LIVES Galapagos feels like paradise on earth: breathtaking landscapes, turtles, iguanas and Darwin's footprints. Modern Ecuador, however, can be dark. Kidnappings for ransom are so common here that even an Uber ride can become the beginning of a nightmare. It is difficult to escape the violence that is everywhere. When Alice was planning this trip, she wanted to fight for a relationship with Lena. However, the stepdaughter is no longer a child, but a young woman addicted to drugs, thirsty for adventure, romance and stimulation. Their departure together becomes a battleground — not only with danger lurking around the corner, but also the fragility of the bond between the stepmother and the child entering adulthood. What price will they have to pay for the dependencies and addictions they have become entangled in?

Anna Cieplak, an author awarded the Conrad Prize and nominated for the Nike Literary Award, creates a bold and colorful story about a changing world. This story is particularly relevant in the context of global chaos, in which people are forced to find new sources of security and solace.

The meeting will be organized as part of the project “A question of culture — meetings, workshops, discussions about literature”. The project was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund — a state special purpose fund.
