ul. Jędrzeja Śniadeckiego 24, Oświęcim

On 3 November at 6 pm in the Oświęcim Cultural Centre there will be an author's meeting with Berenika Kołomycka combined with the promotion of her latest comic entitled Are Birds Singing Here? from Timof Comics. This publication is a personal, family history-based story story about memory, passing, and trying to understand the past. The starting point is the story of Kazimierz Hałonia, brother of the author's grandfather, and the search for traces of his fate in places connected with family history, including in Brzeszczy and Oświęcim. The comic combines the documentary dimension of the family investigation with a personal reflection on what remains in the memory of subsequent generations. It is a story about the absence, memory and inheritance of history, but also about trying to look at the past through places that still bear its traces.

Berenika Kołomycka — born in 1983, Polish author and comic book artist. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Winner of the Grand Prix of the International Festival of Comics and Games in Lodz. She made her debut in the anthology “44" published by the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

The greatest popularity was brought by her author's award-winning series “Malutki Lisek i Wielki Dzik”, published in Poland by Egmont. The series has also been released abroad — including in Norway, Spain, Chile, France and the United States — and has gained recognition for its universal, tender stories of friendship, emotions, growing up and relationships with others.

Kołomycka creates both original comics and projects realized in cooperation with other creators. She is the co-author and cartoonist of the series “Mika” published by Druga Noga. In 2025, her next author's series “Kocina” was published, awarded the title of “Books of the Year 2025" by the Polish IBBY Section in the comics category. It is a story aimed at younger readers, full of humor and warmth, and at the same time characteristic of the artist - combining economical form, emotional depth and expressive characters.

Berenice Kolomycka's works have been presented at comic exhibitions in Angoulême, Paris, Brussels and London, among others. Her work has also been published outside of Poland. The artist works primarily by analogy. In comics, he particularly appreciates the ability to tell with image, rhythm and silence — means that leave the reader space for his own interpretation and make him a co-creator of the story.
