AUTHOR'S MEETING WITH DR. PIOTR KOŁPAK

We invite you to meet Dr. Piotr Kołpak, author of the extremely valuable publication “Between Jawornica and Złota Górka. History of Targanic and Brzezinka”, dedicated to their history, inhabitants and cultural heritage. It is an important record of the history of Targanice and Brzezinka — a story about the places and events that formed the identity of these villages over the years.

This publication is particularly important also because it presents the past of Targanic and Brzezinka in such a broad and detailed way for the first time.

During the meeting, we will talk with the author about the book: its creation, the search for materials and the discovery of the history recorded in documents, memories and sources. It is the result of enormous work, commitment and passion of the author, thanks to which we have an incredible opportunity to look at the place where we live from a completely different perspective.

Perhaps on the pages of the book we will find stories about the fate of their own ancestors...

We cordially invite all who have the desire to open the window of the past and see images of bygone years waiting for someone to bring them out of oblivion and restore them to memory...

About the author

Dr Piotr Kołpak — historian and regionalist associated with the Institute of History of the Jagiellonian University, fascinated by the history of Carpathian communities. He comes from nearby Gilowice, which is why the history and traditions of our region are particularly close to him. He also gained his scientific experience at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw and at the Laboratory of Digitization and Inventory of Monuments of the John Paul II Pontifical University. He is a member of the Historical Geography Commission of the Polish Historical Society and the Polish Heraldic Society. Dr. Piotr Kołpak is the author of, among others, the books “The cult of the holy patrons of the Kingdom of Poland in the time of the Jagiellonians”, “Czaniec. The history of the village and parish recorded on the hundredth anniversary of the beginning of the construction of the church of St. Bartholomew” and “Wawel. Royal Castle and Cathedral”. He is also a co-author of the publication “Gilowice. Studies and materials on the history of the village” and “On peasant reason. Rural court records of modern Ołpin and their social contexts”.

The meeting will be accompanied by an exhibition entitled “Once Here...”. The exhibition presents photographs presented on the pages of the book, as well as those that were not included in the publication, but constitute a valuable complement to it — they recall further stories about the former Targanice and Brzezinka.

Meeting organized jointly with the Parish of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Targanice.

During the meeting it will be possible to purchase a book dedicated to the history and history of Targanic and Brzezinka.
