Author's meeting with FILIP ŁOBODZINSKI as part of the XII Festival JAZZ&LITERATURA 2026

We invite you to an author's meeting with Filip Łobodziński about his autobiography “Filip Łobodziński?”. It will be an opportunity to talk about the life, passions and experiences of one of the most versatile people of Polish culture. The Year of Coltrane will also include themes related to the author's music and translation work, including books dedicated to John Coltrane. The meeting will be led by Adam Lempa — artist, educator, music lover and popularizer of music, who has been associated with the Chorzów cultural community for years.

About the autobiography “Filip Łobodziński?”

Filip Lobodzinski? How simple it is! Child actor. Journalist. Musician working in two bands. Literary translator. Host of TV shows... Or else?

A boy raised in the Mokotowski Field. Reitaniak. Record holder when it comes to studying Iberistics - nine years have passed between Gaudeamus and the diploma. Father of two daughters, husband of three wives. He was very lucky in life — and he suffered a terrible tragedy.

Can anyone say that they really KNOW Filip Łobodziński? And... does he really know himself? Who really is Filip Łobodziński? This, as it turns out, is not even known by artificial intelligence.

So he wrote this book himself. There are a lot of memories here, sometimes very difficult. And a lot of thoughts on various topics important to him — literature, music, translation, but also patriotism, journalism and man's approach to the natural world. So can we hope that we get a faithful self-portrait of Łobodziński? Does human memory deserve to be trusted as a source of truth? Is the truth about us even possible?

Let's find out. Such a book — sincere, but perverse — was perhaps not yet in Poland.

About the author

Filip Łobodziński born in 1959. Iberist, musician and translator from English, French, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese and Ladino. Winner of the Cervantes Prize in Warsaw in 2005 for the best literary translation from Spanish, nominated for the Gdynia Literary Award for translation in 2019. For years he worked as a journalist (TVP, Polsat News, Trójka, Inforadio, “Non Stop”, “Rock'n'Roll”, “Machina”, “MAX”, “Przekrój”, “Newsweek”), for 8 years he co-hosted the TV program “Xięgarnia”. Co-founder of the Representation Team (since 1983, six albums) and dylan.pl (since 2014, one album), specializing in his translations of Bob Dylan songs. Volunteer for homeless animals.
