Author's meeting with Joanna Joka

Author's meeting with Joanna Herring around the book “Two million for Grunwald”.

“A fascinating novel about the war fate of the Battle of Grunwald by Jan Matejko. In the autumn of 1939, the Nazis invaded Poland. They have one goal: to destroy the traces of Polishness. On their crosshairs is the painting Battle of Grunwald. The work of Jan Matejko, depicting the defeat of the Teutonic Knights, reconciles with German national pride. For indicating the place where the canvas was hidden, the authorities of the Third Reich set a prize of 2 million marks. This is how a deadly dangerous game begins. People wanting to destroy a painting versus people willing to risk their lives to save it. 2 million for Grunwald is a novel inspired by real events. The effect is known — the Battle of Grunwald has been saved and has survived to our times. But how did it happen? Learn this fascinating story.” (Publisher's description)
