About the event

The smell of paint, the paintings, Paris, the splendor of fame and forgotten female painters who finally come out of the shadows. All this and much more awaits those who come to the author's meeting with Sylwia Zientek. The conversation will be moderated by Magdalena Rigamonti. There will be an opportunity to buy books at the meeting. October 8, 17:30, Poczytalnia Na DVorcu. Free admission.

A writer, expert and art promoter, she will introduce the readers of the Jerzy Pilch MBP in Kielce to the fascinating world of Polish artists. It will introduce, among others, the figure of Mela Muter — painter of portraits of Żeromski, Sienkiewicz and other prominent figures of the era, to whom she dedicated her latest work entitled “Mela Muter. True to herself.”

Although she is a lawyer by education, she also completed a two-year postgraduate study in the history of modern art at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her writing focuses primarily on Polish painters, which she draws from the abyss of oblivion. Sylwia Zientek tries to restore the unknown stories of artists whose paintings, although often known, their difficult and colorful lives are no longer necessarily. In addition to biographical books (such as “Poles on Montparnasse”, “The Splendor of Montparnasse”, “Only They. Polish art without men”), also has numerous historical novels (including the series “Hotel Varsovie” or “Kolonia Marusia”). Zientek's texts on art and artists' biographies can also be read in newspapers and magazines, including in “Piśma. Opinion magazine”, “Wysokie Heels” and “Gazeta”. The author's love of art can also be admired in the television costume series “Matilda”, of which she is the originator and co-writer. She has devoted her whole life to art; she collects paintings, travels in the footsteps of artists, and divides her life between Luxembourg and Warsaw.
