On November 17, we invite you to the 86th of the periodic Meetings at the Globe. Our guest will be Andrzej Pasławski, who will talk about lesser-known corners of Krakow.

As a native of Krakus, I want to present my hometown in two parts from a completely different side. Without Wawel, without St. Mary's Church, without the crowded Grodzka and Floriańska (well, with a small exception).

I will show Krakow unknown and a handful of curiosities and anecdotes about “Smokogrod”. There will be places that tourists and even the townspeople themselves are not familiar with. So there will be the “Poets' Yard”, a tree of poetry, there will be “overviews”, that is, Krakow from above, but from places that few people know about. Why is Hospital Street so called and why is there a “House under Cancer” on it? How was the Słowacki Theatre created and who was extremely upset by this fact? What kind of fortress was used to save the Florian Gate from the “ruins”, because this is how we call Austrians in Krakow and why is it already having its third life? I will show the only one in Krakow “House under the Minaret”, which is the result of a love story.

There will also be a bit of criminal Krakow, if only about how the grandson of the most famous restaurateur — Andrzej Wierzynek — ended his life. I will take the Viewers to places that are generally inaccessible, such as the office interiors of the first Krakow bank with a historic, historic safe, from which 800,000 crowns were secretly taken away for Austrians, as a “bribe” to get out of the Wawel and not to demolish it further! And thanks to whom does it look today?

You will find out these and many other interesting facts at the meeting with me. I will try to inspire listeners to explore the corners of Krakow, but I will also show and tell about places inaccessible to outsiders. Like the beautiful interiors of the Bank of the Pious Archfraternity of Mercy, founded by Piotr Skarga, the notable first rector of the Vilnius Alma Mater, which Stefan Batory called to life — buried... I will also show you where! We will enter the attic, yes, yes — into the attic, into the unshared rooms of the Gothic pearl of Krakow, which is the Church of the Holy Cross! Whose ministry is it and whose relics are there?

I invite you to the little-known part of the first Krakow
Andrzej Paslawski
