This is a book about art after the era of eye domination: about experiences that cannot be easily seen, photographed or enclosed in a picture. The smell works differently — it penetrates, evokes memories, irritates, mixes cleaning up. It becomes a way of talking about the interdependence and fragility of the common world.
The meeting will be attended by the author — Marta Lisok
Osmofuturism stems from Marta Lisok's long-term curatorial practice, developed at the intersection of contemporary art, anthropology of the senses, ecology and research on non-visual forms of perception. In the book, the author analyzes the works of artists who treat smell not as a special effect, but as a tool for thinking about the relationships between people, architecture, plants, animals and the atmosphere. Among the examples discussed are fragrance installations by Anicki Yi, Sissel Tolaas, Pamela Rosenkranz, Mikołaj Spaczyński, Agnieszka Brzeżańska, Centrala, Karolina Grzywnowicz, Otobong Nkangi, Jason Dodge, Rafaela Lozano-Hemmer, Clara Ursitti, Olafur Eliasson and Delcy Morelos.
The field of art appears in their context as a laboratory of premonitions and speculations, encouraging the construction of alternative scenarios of the future, into which, instead of a controlling gaze, a hypersensitive sense of smell leads us.
