This evening, the Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała will bring together the world of inspiring stories and documentary cinema, turning the concert hall into a unique film space.
It is an event for everyone who is fascinated by mountains, travel, extreme challenges and true stories of people pushing the limits of their own capabilities.
Meeting with Adam Bielecki
The evening will begin with an author's lecture by Adam Bielecki — a Himalayan climber, mountaineer and conqueror of the highest peaks in the world. During the meeting, he will talk about the backstage of the eight-thousandth expeditions, the emotions of climbing and the experiences gained in the most demanding mountains of the world.
Adam Bielecki has to his credit the first winter ascents on Gasherbrum I and Broad Peak, the conquest of K2, Makalu and participation in the national expedition on K2. He is also one of the protagonists of the high-profile rescue operation on Nanga Parbat, during which the French Himalayan woman Elizabeth Revol was rescued. Awarded, among others, the Order of the Revival of Poland and the French Legion of Honor, he has been inspiring for years with his attitude, courage and consistency in the realization of dreams.
This is a unique opportunity to hear stories that are not captured by the expedition or the book — stories of responsibility, partnership, risk and passion that leads to the roof of the world.
Screening of the film “The Dark Side of Mount Everest”
After the lecture, we invite you to the screening of the documentary film “The Dark Side of Mount Everest” (Everest Dark) directed by Jeremy Watt (Canada, 2025), projected on a 102 m² screen.
The film presents the Himalayas from the extremely rare perspective of the Sherpas — people without whom no expedition to Mount Everest could take place. The protagonist of the documentary is Mingma Tsiri Sherpa, a nineteen-time conqueror of Everest, who decides on his last and most demanding mission. Contrary to the promise made to his family, he returns to the highest mountain in the world to clear its slopes of the bodies of the Himalayists, for whom the road to the top ended tragically.
It is a moving story about respect for nature, Buddhist spirituality, responsibility and the value of human ambition. The documentary also allows you to know the path leading to Mount Everest through the eyes of those who know it best.
The film was one of the biggest hits of the 22nd Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival, winning acclaim from audiences and critics alike for its exceptional imagery and deeply humanistic look at the world's tallest mountain.
