About the event

On 22 October, at 18:00 we invite you to the Cyberiada branch at Hetmańska Street for a meeting with Karolina Felberg about the book “Osiecka. A bird is born” — a biography of total Agnieszka Osiecka, who was always ahead of her time. The conversation will be moderated by Mateusz Paradowski.

Agnieszka Osiecka from an early age intensely observed herself and the world. She matured earlier than her peers and at the same time kept something of a child in herself for a long time. She wrote diaries, created her own image, tried to find her place and understand herself. But is it possible to write a biography of a person who invented himself from the beginning?

Karolina Felberg, literary historian, literary critic and publicist, has been working on the work of Agnieszka Osiecka for years. As editor of her “Diaries”, she got to know both the poet's literary achievements and her most personal notes. In the book “Osiecka. A bird is born” uses this unique access to sources to tell about the beginnings of the life and career of one of the most important Polish songwriters and poets.

This is a biography in which Osiecka speaks in her own voice, and her diaries become not only a testimony of life, but also a key to understanding the later work and choices of an adult artist. Felberg also shows her surprising forerunnership — among other things as the author of the first Polish attempts at self-fiction.

Karolina Felberg is a doctor of humanities, a long-time collaborator of the Okularnica Foundation and one of the greatest experts on the work of Agnieszka Osiecka. She is the editor of her “Diaries” and the author of the book “Colleague. Memories of Agnieszka Osiecka”. On October 14, her next book will be published — “HŁASKO/OSIECKA. Just not about love”, written together with Radosław Młynarczyk, a biographer of Marek Hłaska.

The meeting takes place as part of the #czytELnia cycle implemented with the financial assistance of the Warmia and Mazury Regional Government.
