The lecture will be an attempt to present to the listeners how everyday life lived in 16th and 17th century Krakow. What did the interiors look like, what kind of furniture they were decorated with: comfortable or rather subordinate to the representational function? How were they decorated, where did the patterns come from and what fashions did they succumb to over time? We will look at both the form and function of old equipment — chests, benches, saddles, wardrobes or beds. All this based on the objects preserved to this day and iconographic testimonies that we can find by carefully viewing the painting and sculptural works of that period. It is safe to say that furniture is very often the masters of the “second plan”.
