About the event
Fear Eats the Soul is a melodramatic tragicfare inspired by the work of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The play takes place against the backdrop of an increasingly complex socio-political situation and tells an intimate story about loneliness, the need for closeness and love that crosses social boundaries, prejudices and fear.
It is not only a story about love, but also a reflection on the dynamically changing Polish society, in which the figure of the Other, the alien, the non-war appears. “Fear to Eat Your Soul” looks at ambiguous phenomena and emotions that arise in the encounter of the local community with multiculturalism; also those that escape public debate and the media, which is why they are still surprising or incomprehensible to many.
Jędrzej Piaskowski and Hubert Sulima, the award-winning creative duo, are bringing the action to contemporary Silesia with their first performance at the Silesian Theatre. With their characteristic humor, distance and sensitivity, they analyze current social tensions and moods. The filmmakers draw on the aesthetics of camp and caricature that appear in Fassbinder's work to tell a perverse way about the struggle for independence, dignity and solace, while also asking questions about our own fears and their impact on relationships with others.
What are we really afraid of? Why does fear still eat away at our souls? Is the devil really as scary as they paint him?
