Stradivarius Meets Jazz is a unique artistic project that combines the world of classical music with the energy and language of jazz improvisation. The starting point is the work of Grażyna Bacewicz — one of the most outstanding Polish composers of the 20th century, and at the same time an excellent violinist — whose music, thanks to its rhythmicity, expressive melody and unusual expression, opens a fascinating space for dialogue with jazz.

About the event

Jazz Chokes at the Philharmonic

Stradivarius Meets Jazz is a unique artistic project that combines the world of classical music with the energy and language of jazz improvisation. The starting point is the work of Grażyna Bacewicz — one of the most outstanding Polish composers of the 20th century, and at the same time an excellent violinist — whose music, thanks to its rhythmicity, expressive melody and unusual expression, opens a fascinating space for dialogue with jazz.

The project brings together Janusz Wawrowski, one of the leading Polish virtuoso violinists, and the Filip Wojciechowski Trio composed of: Filip Wojciechowski (piano), Paweł Pańta (double bass) and Patryk Dobosz (drums). The artists perform original works by Filip Wojciechowski and their own improvisations inspired by the works of Bacewicz and other composers, allowing classical themes to sound in a completely new language.

The special hero of the project is Antonio Stradivari's “Polonia” violin from 1685, on which Janusz Wawrowski performs. Their extraordinary sound meets the jazz trio, creating a musical dialogue in which the precision of the score leaves room for spontaneity and improvisation.

Stradivarius Meets Jazz is a meeting of tradition with modernity and classical craftsmanship with jazz freedom. The project shows that Grażyna Bacewicz's music can be not only an object of interpretation, but also an inspiration for new, original musical research.
