Dorothea Vogel and her colleagues return to the OT this October for an intimate concert in our unique space.
The programme opens with Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No.6, Op. 80, a passionate and tragic four-movement work written as a requiem for his beloved sister, Fanny. Its sombre atmosphere is echoed in Puccini’s Crisantemi, a lyrical and deeply moving work written in a single night in 1890 following the sudden death of Amadeo I of Spain.
In the second half, spirits are lifted with Mozart’s String Quartet No. 21, K. 575, dedicated to the King of Prussia, an enthusiastic amateur cellist. The quartet gives the cello an unusually prominent role, while Mozart’s wit, elegance and warmth provide a fitting close to the programme.
