The Danish folk metal scene would look different without Svartsot. Since its formation in 2005, the band has helped define the genre at home with a sound that combines folk and medieval music with the heaviness and intensity of death metal. The result is an expression where bagpipes, flutes and mandolin meet heavy guitars, growl vocals and an uncompromising rhythmic foundation.
The lyrics are based on Danish folk tales, historical tales and old legends, which the band interprets in a contemporary and hard-hitting musical format. Through six albums, Svartsot has developed and refined their approach, most recently on 'Peregrinus', which was released in conjunction with the band's 20th anniversary. Recorded with Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studios, the album marks another chapter in the group's long history.
Over the years, Svartsot has played at festivals such as Wacken, Graspop, Roskilde Festival and Copenhell and toured widely throughout Europe. With a strong focus on the audience, the band has built a reputation as a name that delivers energetic and party-tinged concerts without compromising the heaviness of the music.
On Friday, December 19, Svartsot takes BETA for an evening of melodic folk metal, Danish tales and lots of raw energy. This will be the last opportunity of the year to experience the band in Copenhagen.
