ul. Zawiszy Czarnego 1, Gdynia

The Light of Gdynia is a unique journey through post-war Gdynia, preserved in unique frames by the marriage of Bolesława and Edmund Zdanowski. The exhibition will present the achievements of the organizers of the Lyceum of Photography of the Society of Workers' Universities, which was transformed into the Photography Department at the state Lyceum of Fine Arts in Gdynia Orłowo. In the resources of the Museum of the City of Gdynia there are more than 700 negatives and more than 400 positive prints by Edmund Zdanowski. Most of them depict Gdynia — port and city — in the first twenty years after the Second World War. Dr. Dawid Gajos from the Historical Department of the City of Gdynia Museum will take you on a journey through the first post-war 25th anniversary of Gdynia at the Light of Gdynia exhibition.

Bolesława and Edmund Zdanowski were among the artists associated with the Vilnius School of Photography. They were educated under the guidance of the outstanding photographer Jan Bułhak, and over time they also became his collaborators. In addition to artistic activities, they were also engaged in didactics in the field of photography. They married in 1930, and four years later opened their own photographic studio in Vilnius. They carried out many projects together, which is why they signed their works together, treating them as the result of teamwork. In 1945 they settled permanently in Gdynia, where they continued to work in the artistic and pedagogical field, especially considering topics related to the city.
