Świętoszek

Despite the passage of more than three centuries, Moliera's “Świętoszek” has not aged a bit. Regardless of the era, this brilliant comedy still remains a merciless, full of irony and malicious commentary on our vices.

The French master of the word created in the 17th century a gallery of figures so expressive and real that their flaws can easily be found in modern society. Human nature simply does not change. All around us are still full of calculating manipulators like Tartuffe, naive blind men like Orgon or hot-headed idealists like Damis.

The director of the play, Tomasz Grochoczyński — an outstanding actor, director and long-time lecturer at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw — shows a mechanism that we know perfectly well from today's realities, i.e. manipulation.

The show answers the question: why do we so easily believe people who say what we want to hear?

Tomasz Grochoczyński used Molier's text translated by Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński, he made sure that the play sounded colloquially, understandable to the young viewer, and at the same time retained its universal, comedic rhythm.
