We invite you to a unique performance for young people and adults entitled: “Synchronization in Birkenwald” by Viktor E. Frankl, one of the creators of existential analysis and logotherapy — the therapeutic method.
One of the initiatives for the creation of the play was the 120th anniversary of the birth of Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist. During World War II, he was a prisoner of four concentration camps, including Auschwitz and Dachau, which significantly influenced his work and philosophy. Frankl's logotherapy is recognized as the third Viennese school of psychotherapy. Among his most important works are books such as Man in Search of Meaning, Homo patiens, The Doctor and the Soul and the Hidden God. Each of them carries a profound message of the power of hope, responsibility and the human capacity to overcome suffering.
Frankl came to the conclusion that even in the most difficult moments, when everything seems lost, a person has the power to choose his approach to the situation. His words that “everything can be taken away from man, except for one — the last of human freedoms — the choice of his own position in the face of any circumstance,” is not only a message of hope, but also a call to action.
We believe that this art will transform, that it will bring hope, and that it will also be a prevention of various existential crises and everyone who has the opportunity to get acquainted with it will feel that his will to sense has been strengthened and perhaps even in the face of meaningless circumstances of his life, he will find a meaningful attitude — announces Dr. Roman Solecki — Director of the Krakow Institute The Logotherapy Tutu, who is one of the originators of the creation of the show and also plays in it.
About the art Synchronization in Birkenwald
What if Socrates, Kant and Spinoza met today to confront questions about evil, suffering and the meaning of life?
In 1945, shortly after his return to freedom, after three years in a Nazi death camp, Viktor Frankl wrote Synchronization in Birkenwald. In the drama, three great thinkers — the Athenian philosopher Socrates (496-399 BC), the Dutch philosopher of Jewish origin, Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677), and the German metaphysician Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) travel back in time to join the prisoners of the concentration camp and face the age-old question posed. for the first time by Job: What is the meaning of suffering?
From the synchronization of time and space emerges a reflection that we can also reach for today in times of our crises. The dialogues, full of pain and hope, penetrate deeply, inspiring reflection on true freedom — that which Frankl described as “the freedom to choose one's own position” even in the face of suffering. Art provokes deep reflection on the essence of humanity, hope and the power of free choice.
