Sing Christmas in at the Glyptotek

Let the Christmas peace subside as the Sankt Annæ Girls' Cross sings Christmas into the Glyptoteket's Feast Hall.

The concert presents both new and well-known Christmas classics, uniting Benjamin Britten's 'A Ceremony of Carols' and Nordic Christmas music with our beloved, traditional Christmas songs. Together with the virtuoso harpist Maria Boelskov Sørensen and the prominent string quartet AKELA, Sankt Annæ Girls' Choir offers a very special evening with great musicality at its core.

Benjamin Britten composed 'A Ceremony of Carols' in April 1942 on the Atlantic during a voyage from the United States to England on a Swedish freighter. During a brief landing in Nova Scotia, Britten visited a bookstore and found 'The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems', a collection of English medieval poems from the 14th to the 16th centuries. These texts formed the basis for the eleven movements of 'A Ceremony of Carols', in which Britten beautifully links the language of medieval poems into his musical universe.

Sankt Annæ Girls' Choir is one of the best choirs in Denmark and an important link in the country's musical food chain. The choir's activities range widely, from major concert projects to overseas tours and exchange collaborations with other accomplished choirs. Sankt Annæ Girls' Choir is a unique free school offering for girls from all kinds of homes. In 2023/2024, the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary season and in October 2024 won the grand prize at the European State Radio Phonies' competition 'Let The Peoples Sing'.

The ticket includes admission to the museum all day, so you can explore the museum's collections and exhibits.
