Come and sing along when Glyptoteket and Folkehögskolernes Forening invite you to the annual New Year's song from Højskolesangbogen. The banquet hall of the Glyptotek forms the setting for this special séance.
The house orchestra consists of Johanne Louise Schmidt, Ole Kibsgaard, Emil de Waal and conferencier Rasmus Skov Borring. Also appearing are songwriter and hymn poet, Nikolaj Paakjær and writer Shekufe Tadayoni Heiberg. You can also experience the student choir from Silkeborg Højskole led by Marianne Søgaard.
In a good mix of solemn and informal mood, the Glyptotek forms the framework to sing us well into the new year. The surroundings of the historical museum give both the feeling of a cultural depth, but also that both new and old songs can unfold especially when they are sung in the beautiful banquet hall. We must sing about the near, about the national and the global, about faith, hope and love — about being human in life.
On stage you can meet a number of artists and musicians, all rooted in Danish folk culture. Experience community singing and choral performances through both traditional and newer songs in the Højskolesangbogen. The audience must both sing along and listen. The repertoire ranges from Grundtvig to popular culture in diverse expressions.
The most recent edition of Højskolesangbogen was published in 2020 and, with over 400,000 copies sold, continues to be one of the best-selling books in Denmark. The first college songbook appeared in 1894. Since its beginning, its purpose has been to reflect society, and as the world changes, new times call on new songs. In the latest edition, 151 new songs were included, while 122 songs left the book.
'Sing the Year Ind' is a collaboration between Glyptoteket and Folkehögskolernes Forening.
