Eccentric artist Louis Wain gained fame thanks to unusual drawings of cats, which at the turn of the 19th and early 20th centuries conquered the imagination of the British public. Will Sharp's film tells the story of his life and work, and at the same time shows how the perception of cats has changed from being primarily utilitarian animals to full-fledged domestic companions.
The Mad World of Louis Wain looks not only at the extraordinary artist, but also at the cultural history of our relationship with one of the genres closest to us.
After the show, we will talk about Wain's work, representations of animals in art, interspecies relationships and creativity influenced by cats.
After the show, there will be a meeting led by Dr. Patrycja Pichnicka-Trivedi, associate of the Center for Environmental Humanities.
