Music that sounds in total darkness. Szymon Weiss invites you to TOTAL DARKNESS — a project that the artist describes as a symphony concert for electronic orchestra. During the performance in the Bogusława Hall, X will play synthesizers and electronic drums, creating a sound story in which space, rhythm and attentiveness of the listener become as important as sound.
Darkness will not only be the background, but an integral part of the concert. Limiting visual stimuli will allow you to focus on sound and experience music in a different way, discovering its spatiality, texture and relationship with the acoustics of the place.
The concert will last 90 minutes. For the duration of the performance, all lights in Bogusław X Hall will be turned off and will remain off until the end of the performance. Please be prepared to stay in one place throughout the concert and limit your travel to the minimum necessary. Do not direct light sources towards the stage or illuminate the room with them. If you need to leave the room, please use the light of your mobile phone to find your way safely. The use of a flash is prohibited.
Szymon Weiss — music producer, composer and creator of the Weiss Video Orchestra project, working at the junction of acoustic and electronic music. In his work, he combines synthesizers, electronic and acoustic percussion with an extensive visual layer, creating original audiovisual forms for specific spaces and immersive experiences. He works conceptually, devoting long periods to studio searches, which often result in unique, one-off concert performances. He is also a composer of film music, among others for Jerzy Skolimowski. As the only Pole, he is associated with the legendary label Stil vor Talent, run by Oliver Koletzki. He collaborated with such artists of the electronic scene as Neil Landstrumm and Stanislav Tolkachev. His energetic drum set closed the main stage of the Audioriver festival.
The SZUMY series is dedicated to music created at the junction of acoustic sounds and electronics — from ambience and minimalism, through new music, to electroacoustic improvisations. Performers work with chamber ensembles, acoustic instruments, electronics, synthesizers and live processing. The series is also inspired by the way of hearing the world present in Miron Białoszewski — sensitivity to noises, “clumps”, “strings”, small sound events that usually escape attention. It is a space for artists who combine contemporary composition with electronics, ambient and minimalism with acoustic instruments and experimental narratives with intimacy and murky aesthetics. The series presents music that requires careful listening and in which the hall becomes an instrument.
