Venue: Kammer - Poprishchin is a minor civil servant. Day after day, he struggles in his gray existence, is unhappy at work and hopelessly in love with the daughter of his highest boss. He longs for social advancement, but in view of the unattainability of his dreams, he withdraws more and more until he completely turns his back on reality.
In the Notes of a Madman, Nikolai Gogol describes a man between hopelessness and self-abandonment. Instead of accepting the circumstances, the hero flees into a sense of omnipotence heightened to delusions of grandeur in order to overcome his inferiority complex. Samuel Finzi plays the maniac who starts a new career at the age of 42.
