About the event

Join Isabella Burley, Charlotte Cotton, Gem Fletcher, Moffy Gathorne-Hardy and Hanna Moon for an evening exploring the relationship between money, power and art-making.

Presented by Moffy Gathorne-Hardy and Hanna Moon’s creative platform The Other Times, the discussion will examine the working conditions for female artists and the importance of financial stability for creative freedom.

Bringing together perspectives from across the creative and cultural industries, the evening will consider how we might relate to – and navigate – the structures that shape our work. How can we operate within systems we are increasingly required to be imaginative within simply to survive? And what possibilities exist for building new ways of working, sharing resources and supporting one another?

Join us to think through these questions together, in a conversation about platform-building, creating and sharing resources, and the possibilities for furthering artist autonomy.

Frances Waite, I'm Tired Of This Shit, 2023.

She has also created and led programming in collaboration with The Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, The International Centre of Photography New York, The Photographer’s Gallery, London, The Saatchi Gallery, London, The National Portrait Gallery, London as well as Paris Photo, Photo London and Peckham 24. Hanna Moon is a South Korean-born, London-based artist and photographer working across fashion and contemporary art. Her practice explores identity, representation and contemporary visual culture through photography and moving image. Moon founded A Nice Magazine while studying at Central Saint Martins in 2014. Since then, her work has been exhibited at Somerset House, acquired by the National Portrait Gallery, and published in her monograph Almost Something. Her work has appeared in publications including British Vogue, AnOther, M Le Monde, i-D, POP and Arena Homme+, and she has collaborated with brands including Hermès, Gucci, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Supreme. Charlotte Cotton is an independent writer and curator. Her books and projects include ‘The Photograph as Contemporary Art’, ‘Photography is Magic’, ‘Words Without Pictures’, and ‘Public, Private, Secret: Photography and the Configuration of Self’ that each take a critical view on the scope of visual culture in the 21st century. ‘Love Pictures' is her recent book and collaboration with the American artist Jess T Dugan. Isabella Burley is a creative consultant based between London and New York. She is the founder of Climax Books, an independent bookshop and cultural platform dedicated to art, fashion, photography, and printed matter. Previously, she served as Chief Marketing Officer at Acne Studios. From 2015 to 2021, she was editor-in-chief of Dazed & Confused, taking the helm of the youth culture title at just 24 years old. In 2017, she also served as Editor-in-Residence at Helmut Lang. Moffy Gathorne-Hardy is a London-based writer, cultural commentator and music enthusiast. She studied Comparative Literature with Russian and Czech at University College London, where she focused on Eastern European literature, specifically the work of Bruno Schulz. She recently completed an MA in History and Literature at Columbia University, where she wrote her thesis on the role of male- and female-coded speech acts in the Beatles' Rubber Soul. She plans to expand this thesis into a book-length work. Her thinking and writing are largely informed by the decade she spent working as a model. Since they met in 2012, she has frequently collaborated with Hanna Moon.
