Sławomir Mrozek's “Tango”, seemingly grotesque and funny, actually talks about very important things.
It is a story about the conflict of generations. With humor and tenderness, the father-son relationship is presented, the winding paths of unlimited freedom are shown, and at the same time the longing for the world of principles that has passed away. Most of all, however, the author hid under the comedic surface a story about the ways of establishing violence.
The heroes of the drama live in a reality in which the old values have been discarded, and new ones have not yet had time to be born. In a world where all norms have been overthrown and freedom has ceased to have borders, there is a longing for order. However, an attempt to restore order leads to even more chaos and even crime. When the symbolic order disappears and the authorities fall, someone always takes their place. However, he is not always someone worth listening to - most often he forces to listen with impudence and force. This recurring mechanism of escape from responsibility and usurpation of power is worryingly relevant today as well.
