Grotesque, absurd, brilliant humor and questions that plague every generation.
The main character, Arthur, returns home from lectures and discovers chaos: demolished norms, anarchy without rules, freedom without borders. The idealistic attempt to restore order and meaning leads him to confront his family until he becomes a symbolic victim of the decline of values. It is a story about the collision of idealism with brutal reality — how easily order can turn into chaos.
Sławomir Mrozek's outstanding art is bursting with contemporary problems. The conflict between liberal freedom, unlimited expression, tolerance and artistic experimentation, and the fear of loss of identity, the need for meaning, principles and values in a world without tradition, sounds as strong today as it did sixty years ago — perhaps even stronger. In the Rzeszow interpretation of Marcin Sławiński, these tensions become a mirror for contemporary social dilemmas. The director, known for his love of intelligent comedy, reaches for the Mrozek text with respect for the original, while at the same time looking for a modern stage form for it. It introduces viewers to a reality full of associations, symbols and perverse logic — a world that entertains and engages, leaving a deep reflection on freedom, tradition, responsibility and identity. “Tango” is one of the most important Polish dramas of the 20th century, translated into dozens of languages and staged on stages all over the world. A work that invariably inspires conversation.
We invite you to the world of “Tango” — a grotesque universe that has been igniting the imagination of viewers around the world for six decades.
The license to use the Work has been granted by the Association of Authors ZAiKS.
The performance was realized as part of the task called International Theater Day with the premiere of the play “Tango”. Financed from the budget of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
