After last year's phenomenal opening of the Divine Comedy with the play The Year Where There Was No Summer and subsequent successes on European stages — for example, the spectacular Sea World project as part of the Venice Biennale — Florentina Holzinger returns to Krakow. This time, the audience will be able to see her spectacular performance, in which, together with a group of uncompromising performers of different ages, she critically deals with the ballet tradition. Classical dance is synonymous with physical feat and beauty, but it lacks freedom and feminist energy, and this is what Holzinger is most interested in. Tanz, which has been dubbed a ballet body-horror, has been visiting international festivals since its premiere.
About the event
The show is a completion of the trilogy, the earlier parts of which are Recovery and Apollon. This trilogy is about the body as a spectacle and the cultural ways of disciplining it. In Tanz we will see erudite references to ballet classics, but also performers flying on motorcycles, elements of body suspension - hanging on hooks hammered into the skin, as well as kinky and BDSM practices. It is a chilling, surprising and delightful spectacle that provokes thinking about dance in the context of the most transgressive and extreme artistic and stage practices.
Some scenes contain acts of self-harm, which can create feelings of discomfort or anxiety in some viewers. Strobe lights are used in the performance.
