Hard-hitting Greenlandic rap about identity, resistance and colonial power structures

About the event

With captivating charisma and political nerve, Tarrak raps hard-hitting about identity, resistance, inequality and colonial power structures. In recent years he has established himself as an indispensable voice on the Greenland music scene and this summer he will play a big show at Roskilde Festival for the second time. In October, the audience will have a rare opportunity to experience Tarrak up close when he gives a concert in an intimate setting at ALICE.

Tarrak is one of the most prominent figures of the time on the Greenlandic music scene. With fiery expressiveness, charisma and political nerve, he conveys raw and unsweetly about Greenlandic experiences and realities in his razor-sharp rap lyrics at a time when Greenland is thrust into the center of international political tensions. Here personal experiences are intertwined with a sharp critique of colonialist thinking and societal inequality, and even if one does not understand the Greenlandic language, one as an audience is never in doubt about Tarrak's unequivocal messages. Tarrak's importance extends far beyond music, and he has established himself as an important critical voice in contemporary Greenland.

Tarrak broke through with his debut album “FXGxS”, in which the number “Tupilak” in particular developed into a viral breakthrough and made him known far beyond Greenland's borders. Since then, he has emerged as an artist who insists on using music as a space for both reflection, resistance and community. On his 2019 album “Josef Tarrak”, he turned his gaze inward with an autobiographical work that explored identity, vulnerability and belonging through honest narratives from growing up. Since then, he has released a number of strong singles, including with Suspekt in 2023 and the latest single from his own hand “Pigalugu” (2025. Along the way, Tarrak has received numerous honors, including the Talent Award at the Koda Awards and the Greenland Self-Government Encouragement Award. In 2023, Tarrak performed as the first Greenlandic rapper ever at Roskilde Festival, and in 2026 he will return with a magnificent concert on the main program. In October, the audience will have a rare opportunity to experience Tarrak up close when he gives a concert in an intimate setting at ALICE.
